White Sox games at U.S. Cellular Field are always a Hit!

We may live on the North Shore of Chicago, but we regularly drive down to the south side to root for the Chicago White Sox and enjoy all of the fun family activities that U.S. Cellular Field offers. If you are visiting Chicago or if you are a local who hasn’t been, don’t miss out on fun for the whole family!

Go for The Fun:

The Chicago White Sox go above and beyond to offer great activities beyond just watching the game to really creating an experience the whole family will enjoy! Every season we pick a few games and order a big block of tickets so we can invite grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins along for a fun evening at the park. While my husband, our dads, and I are content to sit and watch all 9 innings of the game, everyone else prefers to wander. Theme nights are great for that because there is usually entertainment before the game, fun themed activities around the park during the game, and for kids there is always the Fundamentals deck!

The XFINITY Fundamentals Deck is an absolute must see for families, and it is our 4-year-old son Harry’s favorite spot to visit during the game! TIP: It’s best to head up at the end of the second inning so that kids can race Scott Posednik to first base before the line gets long in the 3rd. Then we head over to meet South Paw and take a fun picture during the top of the 3rd inning. Afterwards we head into the video game room and play some fun baseball interactive video games. Then we line up to play a game of catch with the Chicago White Sox Training Academy coaches on the baseball diamond. Harry loves going and has been enjoying the activities since he was only 2 years old. For older kids there is a second level with batting cages and more. Look for the Fundamentals area located above the left-field concourse and overlooking the field and the outfield seating area. XFINITY Fundamentals opens with the gates and remains open throughout the game.

For those family members who are always tied to their mobile devices, the Sox opened a #Sox Social Lounge where you can charge your phone and tag all your friends on social media while taking a break from the action of the game.

Go for The Fireworks:

We think that the White Sox games offer the best family friendly fireworks displays in all of Chicagoland!   What better way to watch fireworks choreographed to great themed music than from your seat at the ballpark? We love to go when we know we will enjoy the theme of the music. Our favorite is always Elvis Night because they not only have great fireworks to Elvis music but they also have 3 skydivers dressed like Elvis who land on the field and a full concert complete with an Elvis impersonator and show girls. Our other favorite is to go for the patriotic fireworks on or around the Fourth of July. They are the BEST!

Go for The Food:

U.S. Cellular Field has an amazing variety of food beyond the usual ballpark favorites.

We often like to arrive at the park early to grab dinner or lunch before the game at the ChiSox Bar and Grill. The restaurant is located at Gate 5 and the food is all by Gibsons Restaurant Group, one of our family favorites! The prices are similar to what you pay inside the park but the food is even better! Our favorites are the delicious burgers, the Comisky Chopped Salad, and the brisket nachos!

Inside the park, we enjoy all the usual baseball favorites as well as less traditional items like Cuban sandwiches, a build it yourself baked potato bar, veggie dogs and garden burgers. And for those looking for gluten-free options they offer gluten free beer, hot dogs with gluten-free buns and gluten-free nachos stands.

Just GO!:

Getting to a Sox Game is easy from the city or the suburbs. I love it because we drive in from the North Shore and the ballpark is right off I94. They offer primo valet parking so we literally park right in front of gate 5 and walk (maybe 100 steps) into the park. Don’t want to drive? No problem, take the El! The Red Line Stop is only 2 blocks away and super easy for getting to and from the game from the city.

There’s still a few weeks left of the regular baseball season at the Cell and some fun theme nights with special Fireworks games sure to be a hit with the whole family!
