Family Weekend Retreat at the Rancho Bernardo Inn

Disclosure: A special thanks to the Rancho Bernardo Inn for their hospitality and for hosting our stay.. All opinions are my own.

San Diego is a favorite destination for our family. We love the weather, the beaches, the fun family attractions, sight-seeing, and most importantly, we love visiting our close family friends who live in Rancho Bernardo, a Northeastern suburb of San Diego.

Welcome to Rancho Bernardo Inn

The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a luxe resort located in Rancho Bernardo, close to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and LEGOLAND California amusement park.

While it has a great reputation for its rustic spa and golf retreat, we found it’s also a great place to chill as a family.

We visited in October as part of their family fun package and loved everything about our autumn stay. Here’s what made it so special:

Kids are treated as VIPs

Harry was gifted a Halloween trick-or-treat bucket at check-in that was filled with treats and a special scavenger hunt just for kids.

When we arrived at our room, a kids tent was all set up for Harry with a sleeping bag and s’mores kit, (along with robes and spa items set out for the adults).

Restorative retreat for the whole family

The historic Spanish mission style resort felt so relaxing with its quiet and gorgeous setting. We couldn’t help but immediately unwind as we walked throughout the gorgeous property.

We fell in love with the warmth of all the sitting areas, fireplaces, and the beautiful fountains around every turn. Together, they created the feel of a cozy relaxing luxury retreat.

Our room itself felt large, luxe, and cozy. The furniture and bathrooms were  not overly luxurious but very nice and somewhat updated. We loved having a large fireplace outside of our room and a back patio overlooking the beautifully landscaped golf course and spa.

We had fun exploring the resort as a family, with the kids’ scavenger hunt taking us around to each of the beautiful fountains and gardens. Our favorite part was stopping to make a wish at the Wishing Well.

Fun to splash play as a family

The family pool was so much fun. But it wasn’t all about the pool. There were also three mini golf holes, a ping-pong table, and foosball poolside.

Although the pool wasn’t staffed on the weekend we visited, we loved having the ability to order room service and drinks to the pool all by texting room service.

Yummy food

We stay in a lot of hotels as a family, and I have to say the room service and dining at the Rancho Bernardo Inn are some of the most delicious and most reasonably priced meals I’ve seen at a hotel of this caliber. We loved our room service and dining experiences, and although the service was a little slow, the servers were always friendly. Plus, roasting s’mores by the fire at night made for an awesome and delicious way to end the day as a family.

Spa and golf

We had booked the Rancho Bernardo Inn so we could visit our family friends and explore San Diego on this trip. So, sadly I didn’t take advantage of the luxurious spa and beautiful golf course. However, I did check out both, and I would absolutely plan a return trip with a focus on spa and golf time because both looked amazing.

A warm and memorable stay

There was something special about our stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn, and that really struck a chord with our family. Everyone who worked there was so welcoming, laid back, and friendly. And while it isn’t the most luxurious hotel we’ve ever stayed at, it was a very warm, cozy, and relaxing retreat at a reasonable price in a desirable location.

I recommend it to any family who loves a scenic resort, and especially to those families who want to be close to LEGOLAND California and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, while enjoying a beautiful golf course and spa.

A special thanks to the Rancho Bernardo Inn for their hospitality during our stay. I received one free night and one night at a media rate for our stay. All opinions are my own.
