Sandals Foundation , the non-profit arm of Sandals & Beaches Resorts, is an amazing organization which helps those in need in the Caribbean, even in countries where they do not operate resorts. They focus on education, helping bring supplies to the schools and teachers and bringing hope to the children.
One of the most memorable experiences I had in Jamaica while visiting with the Social Media on the Sand Beaches Moms conference was volunteering with Sandals Foundation at a local primary school on the Scholastic Reading Road Trip.
I had the privilege of visiting Mt. Airy Primary School and meeting a six year old girl named Tiana (yes, just like the princess, a fitting name for this special girl). I read to Tiana and helped her complete some worksheets. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up…… and I think the work Sandals Foundation does to deliver supplies to her school may help her achieve her dreams.
We did great things that day. We delivered a van full of supplies, games, puzzles and toys. We also brightened their day and we left them with some pictures to remember us. They sang for us and left us inspired.
After Hurricane Matthew hit the Caribbean last month, Sandals Foundation started to raise funds to help those in need. I would love to help them achieve their goals by asking you to donate. I know Tiana and a of her teachers and classmates appreciate it! They were lucky to escape Hurricane Matthew but many other schools were not as lucky.
And if you are staying at a Sandals or Beaches resort, ask them about the Reading Road Trip and maybe you can also meet a princess like Tiana and be inspired.
