Have your kids always wanted to stay in a real castle?
Warm welcome:
We were greeted with a welcome drink and smiling staff. The staff showed us to our elegant, luxurious room in the original castle building, which dates back to the 14th century. We loved that they surprised our daughter with special Dromoland bears for her birthday (and gave one to her brother, so he was not upset). The standard room was large enough for our family of four, and they even accommodated us with a rollaway bed so my kids could each have their own space.
Activities:
This really makes Dromoland Castle stand apart from other hotels or castles! We didn’t have to leave the 400+ acre property to enjoy all of our activities. The adults experienced falconry while the kids and I went on a pony and trap ride all around the castle grounds. We learned about the history of the castle and got to explore. Next was archery. Our group of eight loved this activity, as everyone could easily participate. The kids also loved the go karts, which didn’t require reservations. They rode those each evening after dinner! The life-size chess was also fun, and unfortunately, we didn’t have time left to explore the horseback riding, fishing, or indoor pool.
Five-star service:
I have to say, service at Dromoland Castle was phenomenal. After a morning of activities, the wonderful staff prepared a picnic lunch and was waiting for us with blankets. We chose to eat in the secret gardens, and it was just perfect! Breakfast was delicious with a buffet and a la carte service. My kids loved one part in particular: the formal entree service at breakfast. It made them feel like royalty! The staff was very attentive and helped us re-schedule our day when a boat tour got cancelled.
Tip: Ask your hotel to schedule transportation to dinner so that everyone can relax. Dromoland had a van, and was delighted to drive us off property for dinner.
I’m not sure what else could have made our castle stay more enjoyable. I’ve recommended a stay at Dromoland Castle Hotel in Ireland with kids to several family friends since we returned.
We felt like royalty during our stay and cannot wait to go back to Dromoland Castle on our next trip to Ireland! Have you ever stayed in a castle?
